Design Story

Enjoy Espresso Like They Did Back Then

History of the Demitasse

The demitasse originated in France as an ornate art form for the elite. The 1950s demitasse was simplified, removing all the trappings to fit the everyman of coffee house culture.

A Modern Demitasse

Made in traditional white porcelain like the 1950s demitasse, this cup from Kinto’s Topo line has a distinct thickness and asymmetry that borrows from modern wabi-sabi design—a merging of two eras and cultures.

Care and Cleaning

Made with microwave- and dishwasher-safe porcelain, this cup is for everyday use. Do not overheat in the microwave or heat without water. Do not use abrasive cleansers or steel wool.
